When we headed out to the Vogue to catch a show by Gaelic Storm, we had no idea that we would be transported to what felt like a quaint bar in a small town in the Celtic region of the world. But that is the trademark memory I have of this show…feeling as if I was in a carefree town, where all worries and troubles are washed away by a good ol’ time with some friends.
If you don’t know much about Gaelic Storm, you can check out some info about them here, but you may recognize them from the 1997 movie Titanic…yep, that’s right, they were that rowdy band in the 3rd class section of the ship! I can tell you that they are an energetic bunch, who on one hand, fit the mold of what you would expect a Celtic band to sound and act like. On the other hand, they are so much more…combining meaningful lyrics (sometimes those lyrics are comedic in nature) with true musicianship. The band members are made up of very accomplished musicians, who have played with world class groups.
They thrilled the crowd on this evening with songs such as “Jump,” “Samurai,” “Greeneyes,” a song about beating up Russell Crowe called “Crowe,” and crowd favorites such as “Whiskey,” and “Rum.” They certainly had the crowd feeling ready to let all the day to day troubles of life slip away with high energy and a reminder that life is truly what you make it. Perhaps my favorite thing about this show was that I often felt that no matter what troubles I face in life, the fact that I am alive and I have the ability to laugh and smile are truly what matters. Do yourself a favor and check this band out…they are perfect listening for an energetic kick in your day.
