The husband and wife duo that is indie band Tennis made their first stop in Indy on Monday night, and had the pleasure of playing to a sold-out crowd at Radio Radio. Alaina Moore made it a point to mention the fact that selling out a show is a big deal for a band their size, especially at a venue in the Midwest. Kudos for Indianapolis folks and for My Old Kentucky Blog for supporting indie acts.
Tennis played a great mix of songs from their most recent album, Young & Old, and their debut album, Cape Dory. As the songs from Cape Dory were written after the couple spent a few months sailing the Eastern seaboard, those songs have the feeling of an upbeat, romantic adventure as their backbone. Alaina carries the vocals for the group, and though I had a bit of difficulty following all of the words as she sang them, her voice was pleasing to the ears, especially when she got out from behind the keyboard and let loose with it a little bit.
Some song highlights for me were “Never to Part”, “Deep in the Woods”, and “Dimming Light”. Pick up one of Tennis’ albums on iTunes if you get the chance, I think you’ll enjoy it. A sell-out crowd for a small band can’t be wrong!
