Concert Reviews

01.12.2013- Grace Potter and The Nocturnals @ Old National Center Egyptian Room

There are not many vocalists and bands that have the ability to kick off a show with a soulful ballad, but Grace Potter and her infamous band The Nocturnals did it perfectly with "Nothing But The Water." I am personally always taken aback by the sheer power and clarity in Potter's voice, and I always find myself saying that her band is one of the best bands in the business, and this show did not disappoint. Potter and the Nocturnals have been steadily climbing in popularity, and you can tell that all of their hard work is paying off....more

12.05.2012 - Melissa Ferrick @ The Irving

Alright, I’ll admit that although Melissa Ferrick has been on the music scene for years, I came into this show completely unaware of what to expect. I’m honestly not sure I had ever heard even one song of Ferrick’s, which I now know to have been a grievous mistake on my part! Better late than never, right?....more

05.25.2012 - The Lumineers @ Radio Radio

How do you spot a band really lives up to all the hype? Well…they sell out their first show, and, after a second show is added the night before the original, they go ahead and sell that one out too. The Lumineers did this at Radio Radio at the end of May, where Indianapolis once again rose to the challenge of proving that we know good music when we hear it....more

Brandi Carlile - Bear Creek

Brandi Carlile - "Bear Creek"

Brandi Carlile’s fourth full length studio album, Bear Creek, is a departure from all three previous studio albums in a very, very good way. In contrast to the rock-operatic feel that that the most recent studio recording, Give up the Ghost, has, Bear Creek isn’t super-produced and has a much more intimate and down-to-earth feel....more

Brandi Carlile - Live at Benaroya Hall

Brandi Carlile - "Live at Benaroya Hall"

Not that there was a single doubt in my mind, but this album really is incredible. It comes about as close as you can get to capturing the brilliance that is a Brandi Carlile show (though I’m still holding my breath for a live DVD). Including the curtain call as a track on the album really gives you that feeling of actually being there in a fancy theatre with the soaring curtains on stage, the buzz of anticipation for what you know will be an awe-inspiring performance palpable in that cavernous space....more

Adele - 21

Adele - "21"

Adele’s sophomore album 21, available on February 22nd in the US, is a great follow-up to her debut album, 19. If you’re already an Adele fan, I’m surely not telling you anything you don’t already know when I mention how full of soul and emotion her voice is. It completely belies her age – you’d think she’s experienced a lifetime of heartache and disappointment. You can just about feel the underlying resentment and hurt feelings oozing out of this album....more
